The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 1800 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.

The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. Mr Inthy is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Laos. He started his venture to operate Kob Chai Deu restaurant in the city center of Vientiane Capital. Kob Chai Deu has been recognized in Lonely Planet for visitors in Laos. He also has hotels in Vang Vieng, Khammouane and Champasak province. Alternatively, he has pioneered ecotourism business in Laos by introducing various adventurous activities such as hiking, tubing, mount climbing and trekking in several locations in Laos.

Anousa spent almost 7 years in Australia and graduated with a Master Degree and a Bachelor of Information Technology specializing in data communications from the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane.
Right after his return, he had worked as a IT consultant at the PricewaterhouseCoopers (Laos) for 2 years, then decided to establish Cyberia Co., Ltd. a reputable IT solution provider since 1999. Anousa has also been involved in the activities of Lao ICT Commerce Association [LICA] and has been appointed as the Executive Secretary.

Souphaphone Souannavong (Nana) completed a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Banking and Finance at Monash University, Australia in 2005 and later Nana was awarded a Fulbright scholarship and completed a Masters of Science in Finance in the US.

Nana has been working in financial and banking industry since 2005 in various market environments and countries such as the United States, Thailand, Malaysia and an emerging market like Laos.

In March 2014 she started Toh Lao – ‘Toh’ meaning ‘desk’. This is a co-working space in the centre of Vientiane aiming to build an entrepreneurial community where ‘like-minded people come to work, to collaborate, to grow their businesses’. Toh Lao provides low cost office space, meeting rooms and runs seminars, such as on online marketing, using social media, and hosts networking events.
